The Federal Aviation Administration said that a single-engine Piper PA 46 crashed under unknown circumstances. The plane had taken off from Centennial Airport and was trying to land at Erie Municipal Airport, around 20 miles north of Denver, its final destination, when it went down just before noon.
The plane was carrying five passengers and a dog and crashed a few hundred yards northwest of the runway in a grassy area.
The pilot was 67-year-old real estate lawyer Oliver Frascona, and he was killed outright in the crash. The other four people on board were identified as 41-year-old Tori Rains-Wedan and her three children: 15-year-old Mason Wedan and 11-year-old twins Austin and Hunter Wedan. Two of them died at the scene and the others were taken to local hospitals where they also succumbed to their injuries. The dog also died in the crash.
