In the middle of Saturday morning, December 3, a Legacy High School student was killed in a vehicle pedestrian accident.
According to authorities the accident happened at around 11.45 a.in. in the area of 112th Avenue and Federal Boulevard in Westminster. The 16 year old teenager, Jory Coates was standing on the northeast median at 112th, preparing to cross the busy intersection, when he was hit by a vehicle.
Coates was killed instantly and the driver remained at the scene before being taken to hospital with minor injuries.
It appears from witnesses that the car involved had just been sideswiped on 103rd Avenue before going on to hit the boy, so may have been momentarily distracted.
The investigation is ongoing but at this stage police have said that they do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor.
