Longmont High School Teacher Dies in Crash

On Friday night, September 16, a Longmont High School science teacher was one of two people killed in a single vehicle rollover crash near Loveland.

According to authorities, 34 year old Jared Sommervold and his wife 30 year old Genevieve Sommervold, both of Johnston died at the scene of the accident which took place around 9.30 p.m. near 256 mile marker of Interstate 25. Genevieve was also a teacher and taught school at Fort Collins.

It is not known who was driving as both were ejected but it seems that the driver drove off the right side of the road and then overcorrected and the vehicle flipped and rolled. Neither person was wearing a seatbelt. There was a 2 year old child in the back seat who was restrained and survived.

Authorities said that students were notified and counselors and a trauma response team was available to help students and staff cope with the loss.
