Icy Roads Lead to Multiple Crashes

There were two crashes on Monday morning involving two Colorado State Patrol vehicles and a Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy cruiser.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the weather and the road conditions were worsening when the first crash happened shortly before 7.30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 25 near milepost 179, just south of Castle Rock. Investigators said that there were three vehicles involved in the crash, and the deputy and trooper, who were outside of their vehicles, were both taken to Castle Rock Adventist where they were treated for minor injuries and released. The driver who triggered the crash was cited for careless driving resulting in injury as he had lost control and hit the deputy’s car which then slid toward a jersey barrier pinning both the trooper and the deputy against the barrier.

The second collision involving a state trooper happened about 9.30 a.m. around 10 miles south of Castle Rock on I 25. The trooper’s vehicle was parked on the highway shoulder when a driver lost control and slid into it. The car was forced off the road and slid down a 40 foot embankment. The trooper was inside the vehicle but was not seriously injured, nor was the driver of the other vehicle.

Due to the extremely icy conditions in and around Castle Rock there were about a dozen other collisions on Monday morning.
