Police have said that a motorcyclist died in a hit-and-run crash early Monday morning but officers later found the drivers who fled the scene.
According to Aurora Police Department, the crash happened about 2:15 a.m. near the intersection of East Mississippi Avenue and South Moline Street.
They went on to say that the motorcyclist, Derek Dahl, aged 40, was heading east on Mississippi in the left lane, and two pickup trucks, which were traveling together, were westbound on the same road.
Subsequently, the driver of the blue pickup turned left to go south on Moline in front of the motorcycle, and the rider then laid the bike down to try and avoid a crash. The second pickup truck which was black and orange truck and being driven by an adult male, then hit the motorcyclist.
The police said that both trucks stopped and their drivers checked the motorcyclist and then fled the scene.
Dahl was not wearing a helmet, and was taken to hospital where he then died. He was a waiter at the Piper Inn on South Parker Road.
Police said that a witness photographed the trucks which were later found together with their drivers in south Aurora, together with evidence linking them to the incident. The drivers have been processed and charges are expected.
