A Colorado woman has been arrested as a result of an accident which left her 18 year-old cousin dead.
According to the Colorado State patrol an 18 year-old woman was killed when the car in which she was riding, which was being driven by her cousin at the time, suffered an accident which caused her to be ejected from the vehicle. The driver, who police believe was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, has been arrested on charges of vehicular homicide and drunken driving. Another woman who was in the car reportedly suffered minor injuries.
The women were traveling southbound on a dirt road in a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The resulting accident caused the car to roll over one and a half times, which threw the victim out of the car. The victim was reportedly not wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident.
The driver, who was not seriously injured in the accident, is being held at the Mesa County jail.
While it is common knowledge that wearing seat belts saves lives, there is still no shortage of stories where the victim was said not to have buckled up. Not only do we recommend that you never enter the car with a drunken driver, but that you always buckle up, no matter how long or short your trip will be.
