Legalizing marijuana could lead to more deaths

Drugged Driving

Columbia University researchers have recently found out that there are more and more vehicle accident deaths due to the fact that the driver was high on marijuana. The actual number of deaths due to drugged driving has tripled over the last decade.

What is more, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have carried out a survey which shows that one in eight High School seniors when questioned, admitted that they had driven a vehicle under the influence of the drug.

Given that more states are considering legislation to legalize marijuana, more and more parents and grandparents are expressing their concerns, highlighting the fact that in today’s society, given that many people are working such long hours and sometimes more than one job, it is increasingly difficult for them to control their children

The NHTSA survey also showed that of those car accidents resulting in fatalities over the last year, in situations where the driver was high on marijuana,  one in four of the drivers were under 25 years old.

It is still too son to know what the long term effects marijuana legalization will have on the state. But, it is almost certain that the use of the drug will cause some degree of auto accidents in Colorado.
